class="releaseDateline">Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 28, 2012

Gracefully Gluten Free is a new small business specializing in helping people transition to a gluten free diet (also working with other allergies and sensitivities) through one-on-one sessions designed to make the switch to a new diet easier, from one’s own kitchen, to grocery shopping, to navigating social situations and restaurants.

Ashley decided to develop this service after working as the Dispensary Manager of a naturopathic clinic. She saw a lot of people who had recently found out that they had various allergies and sensitivities, and they were very overwhelmed at the prospect of changing their entire diet to accommodate their newly discovered needs. Her educational background in Community Health Education, as well as her personal experience of over six years of following a gluten-free diet due to Celiac’s disease, made her feel she had a lot to offer to people trying to make this switch.

She can be found on Facebook, twitter, and on her blog, where she shares gluten-free finds, recipes, living tips, and more!

Contact Information

Del Mar, Ca (PRWEB) February 03, 2012

Firstat Nursing Services, a home health agency in San Diego, providing home nursing services has recently published a guide on how to talk to your children about Alzheimer’s. “Explaining a disease like Alzheimer’s to a child may seem overwhelming but it must be done in order for your child to understand, at least a little., said Linnea Goodrich, president of Firstat Nursing Services in San Diego, CA. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you are explaining Grandma’s disease to your child.

1 – Decide to explain it accurately. Many times, parents try to tell their children as little as possible about diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. Not telling your child what is happening can be more damaging in the long run than having an honest discussion about what is going on.

2 – Make the conversation age-appropriate. A small child might not understand the word “genetics” but a teenager will. Answer as much as they can ask in terms that they can understand and take cues from their body language and verbal responses to ascertain when they’ve had enough. Make sure that they know you are available for any questions they may have at that moment or in the future after they’ve had a chance to think about what you’ve told them.

3 – Emphasize that Grandma is changing. Explain what “having Alzheimer’s” means in the ways Grandma’s behavior will affect them. Is Grandma forgetting names? Is Grandma getting lost? These are things that you can explain to your child. Explain that the change can be gradual or seem to speed up at times, but that Grandma is still Grandma.

4 – Assure your child that Grandma still loves them. This is especially important if your parent has forgotten their name or started showing signs of accelerated Alzheimer’s. For a young child just discovering this disease, it can mean everything to know that the person they know and loved still loves them.

5 – Explain that your child did not cause this. Some kids feel responsible for everything, even if they had nothing to do with it. If your child has ever been scolded by Grandma, he or she might feel guilty for her behavior because of what they did wrong.

6 – Tell your child that he or she cannot “catch” Alzheimer’s. This can be a huge concern for children of any age. Younger children may wonder if they can “catch” it like it was a regular cold and older children might wonder if they themselves might get the disease someday.

7 – Watch your child’s reaction. Even after you’ve explained Grandma’s disease, your child may feel uncomfortable around her and not want to be around her as much. This can be made worse by Grandma’s increasing disinterest in your child. Observe your child’s reaction and gently encourage activities with Grandma.

Using the Home Nursing Del Mar option to help take care of Grandma can relieve the day to day stress for the entire family

“Talking about Alzheimer’s with your child is just another way to keep communication open between you,” said Goodrich. “By talking to your child about Grandma and her disease, you de-mystify it for your child, which can help ally your child’s own fears and concerns about Alzheimer’s. Discussing the disease calmly with your child helps your child to address it calmly, and to understand more about what is happening to Grandma. You’re being the best kind of role model to your child at a time like this.”

About Firstat Nursing Services
Pittsfield, MA (PRWEB) April 04, 2012

It is estimated that over 75% of the population of the United States has some form of gum disease. Gum Disease, which occurs when plaque builds up around the gum line, can cause severe damage to the teeth and gums. Left untreated, gum disease can cause receding gums, swollen gums, bad breath, sore gums, bleeding when brushing or flossing, and eventually tooth loss. However, despite the warning signs many people refuse to seek treatment for their periodontal disease because of fear of dental surgery. Dr. Michael Williams, a periodontist in Pittsfield, recently introduced the LANAP Laser Treatment for gum disease, a laser surgery that does not involve the pain or fear of traditional gum surgery.

Traditional periodontal disease treatments involve cutting the gums to access and clean the root of the tooth. The gums are then trimmed of the diseased tissue and sutured back in place. Recovery after periodontal surgery often takes weeks and many patients experience moderate to severe pain postop. And, because the gums are trimmed, some gum recession may be noticeable after surgery. A lower gum line can lead to aesthetic issues as well as increased sensitivity to hot or cold.

“Avoiding treatment for gingivitis or periodontitis is should not be an option anyone considers,” said Dr. Michael Williams. “The systemic effects of gum disease are too dangerous to ignore. Gum disease has been linked to heart disease, stroke, obesity, and low-birth-weight or premature babies. And, since I introduced the LANAP Laser Treatment into my practice, there is no reason fear having your gum disease treated anymore.”

The LANAP Laser Treatmentfor gum disease does not use a scalpel or stitches. Instead, the laser treatment uses wavelengths of light that can tell the difference between diseased and healthy tissue. The laser light then zaps away the periodontal disease, leaving the healthy tissue unharmed. The LANAP procedure does not require the use of a blade or sutures and is a minimally invasive procedure that causes very little recession and very little postop discomfort to the patient. The LANAP laser is the first FDA cleared laser treatment for periodontal disease and allows Dr. Williams to see fantastic, predictable long-term results.

As a leading periodontist in Massachusetts, Dr. Michael Williams believes in providing his patients with state-of-the-art dental care and has been trained extensively to provide his patients with such procedures as dental implants, gum grafting, bone grafting, periodontal plastic surgery, and LANAP.

Dr. Michael Williams graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and received his certification as a specialist in periodontology from the same school in 2003. Dr. Williams is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, the highest recognition offered in periodontics, and is the only periodontist in Berkshire County to maintain Diplomate status.

You can visit http://www.PittsfieldLANAP.com or call 413-418-3396 for more information about LANAP or dental implants. Dr. Williams’ office is located at 120 South Street in Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Contact Information

Youngstown, OH (PRWEB) October 07, 2011

On October 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP) Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown (Belmont Ave. entrance) or St. Joseph Health Center (main entrance). The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Please note that liquid medications, intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted.

Last April, Americans turned in 376,593 pounds—188 tons—of prescription drugs at nearly 5,400 sites operated by the DEA and more than 3,000 state and local law enforcement partners.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Four days after the first Take-Back event in September 2010, Congress passed the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010, which amends the Controlled Substances Act to allow an “ultimate user” of controlled substance medications to dispose of them by delivering them to entities authorized by the Attorney General to accept them. The Act also allows the Attorney General to authorize long term care facilities to dispose of their residents’ controlled substances in certain instances. DEA has begun drafting regulations to implement the Act, a process that can take as long as 24 months. Until new regulations are in place, local law enforcement agencies like HMHP Police and the DEA will continue to hold prescription drug take-back events every few months.
<div

These schools are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles choices and creating a wholesome school environment.

Islandia, NY (PRWEB) October 21, 2011

The USDA established the HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC) to recognize schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that create healthier school environments by providing nutrition education, nutritious food and beverage choices, physical education and opportunities for physical activity. This initiative is a main component in First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!”campaign, an effort to end the childhood obesity epidemic.

This recognition is the product of a joint effort between Brookside Elementary School and Whitsons School Nutrition, food service providers at Norwalk Public Schools. Lisa Cantor, Food Service Director and Dr. Angela Vicenzi, Brookside School Nurse, were the main drivers of this initiative along with a review team composed of a cross section of the Norwalk school community: members of the Parent Teacher Organization, Brookside teachers, principal and administrators.

In order to qualify for the Bronze award, Brookside Elementary had to demonstrate the school meets all the HUSSC nutritional requirements on an on-going basis, serving a variety of healthier food that appeal to the students, planning meals that emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products; and that include lean proteins and foods low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars. Furthermore, the school was required to prove its compliance with the physical activity criteria of the HUSSC according to age group.

In the award ceremony, John Magnarelli, Director of Special Nutrition Programs – USDA, presented a HealthierUS Bronze School banner, a commemorative plaque and a check for $500 to the school.

With this award, Norwalk Public Schools reiterates its commitment to promoting a healthy school environment for its students. Currently, eight schools in the district are working towards earning this Bronze Award recognition. According to Lisa Cantor, “Our objective is for all the schools in the district to become HUSSC schools!”

Whitsons School Nutrition provides a wide range of highly customized dining services to public and private schools, with a strong focus on nutritious, high quality menus made from fresh, wholesome ingredients. Our company has a long and proud history of excellence and growth since 1979 and currently ranks the 16th largest dining company in the United States (Food Management magazine, September 2011). class="releaseDateline">Draper, UT (PRWEB) September 15, 2011

Typically, creating a professional-quality 3D model of a monster, superhero or diva could take a digital artist weeks to complete. Now it can be done in a matter of hours as today DAZ 3D announces the release of both DAZ Studio 4 Advanced and Pro – the latest versions of its character creation, art and animation tool. DAZ Studio 4 boasts a new 3D figure platform that enables the GenesisTM series of figures from DAZ 3D. This new 3D figure platform allows artists to quickly create a large variety of custom characters with high detail from one common base model.

The foundation for the Genesis series of figures is comprised of DAZ 3D’s patent pending TriAxTM weight map system and a new open file format that is lightweight, simple to edit and easy to transfer. This makes creating, morphing and customizing characters a joy, as a push of a slider is all it takes to unlock limitless sizes, shapes and forms. This is possible because every Genesis figure shares both a common base mesh and a single joint system, which means that creative revisions, like changing a tall skinny man into a short fat one, are now going to be measured in seconds, not afternoons. For video overview of Genesis, go to: http://bit.ly/reHqbZ

“I love the new Genesis figure because it saves me time,” said Sam Kennedy, Professional Illustrator and DAZ Studio 4 Pro beta tester. “The new morphs make the process of creating a variety of characters from a single mesh extremely convenient. On one project, by generating my own 3D reference in DAZ Studio 4 Pro, I saved 8 hours of painting time on an action-heavy illustration that required a lot of figures.”

“I have to say, the more I work with Genesis, the more I love this figure. It’s so much easier to work with and pose than the previous DAZ figures, and any other figure for that matter,” says Erik Coldrake, DAZ Studio 4 Pro beta tester.

Both DAZ Studio 4 Advanced and Pro versions of the software build on the features released earlier this year in the base version of DAZ Studio 4. In addition, high-end rendering and character creation tools such as auto-rigging, joint editing, morph management, progressive rendering, FBX export and 64-bit support allow artists to consistently create professional-quality characters that transfer easily to other software packages such as Photoshop, Maya, Vue, and ZBrush.

Key DAZ Studio 4 Advanced features include:
Auto-Fit provides a quick and easy way to automatically fit clothing originally made specifically for your favorite fourth generation DAZ 3D figures to the new fifth generation Genesis figures. For video visit: http://bit.ly/im8s9s

Progressive Rendering allows you to quickly see a draft image followed by a series of better images on subsequent passes. This is very useful for adjusting lights and surfaces in test renders.
Multi-Layered Image Editor allows you to create image layers that you can then add to underlying surface textures to create things like tattoos and decals on your models.

64-Bit Support provides users access to the full speed and memory handling of 64-bit operating systems for both Mac and Windows. Support is also included in the OptiTex engine and clothing line.
Key DAZ Studio 4 Pro features include:

Content Creator Tools such Property Editor, Figure Setup, Joint Editor, Morph Loader Pro, give artists the ability to easily construct, edit and manipulate 3D assets on their own custom characters.
GoZ Bridge allows artists to take their model from DAZ Studio 4 to ZBrush and back again, so that they can leverage ZBrush’s powerful modeling tools for detailed character creation.

3D Bridge for Photoshop saves time and money by eliminating the need for costly photo shoots and stock imagery by allowing you to work interactively with 3D objects, while enjoying real-time results in Photoshop.

FBX Exporter gives you the confidence to create and transfer your cutting edge content into your other production tools without issue.

Texture Atlas allows you to automatically collect all of the textures associated with a selected 3D character, size and scale those images, and then combine them into a single texture atlas. This is great for repurposing high-resolution assets for use in real-time gaming or mobile environments.

For additional information regarding the entire DAZ Studio 4 product line, please visit: http://www.daz3d.com/studio.

Pricing and Availability
DAZ Studio 4 Advanced and Pro are available now in both Macintosh and Windows formats. DAZ Studio Advanced is priced at $229.95 and DAZ Studio 4 Pro is priced at $429.95. Upgrade pricing is also available for existing DAZ Studio customers. For purchase details or to view a comparison chart of features, visit http://www.daz3d.com/studio.

About DAZ 3D
The names and specific contacts for the most successful, and reputable mesothelioma attorneys, or mesothelioma trial lawyers in the United States. The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, “There really can be a huge difference between getting a second, or third string mesothelioma personal injury attorney, and or getting the absolute best mesothelioma attorneys in the United States, when it comes to compensation. We recommend, and provide the specific contacts for the best, and the most capable mesothelioma attorneys in the US. The Mesothelioma Victims Center will always be on call to any family dealing with mesothelioma. This includes assisting a family with how to live with mesothelioma, assistance with hospice, or any other need they may have.

Who can get Mesothelioma? Mesothelioma is linked to exposure to asbestos. Individuals who served in the US Navy, or as oil refinery workers, ship yard workers, employees of defense contractors, rail road workers, power plant workers, chemical industry workers, automotive repair specialists, construction workers, plumbers, demolition contractors, were all exposed to asbestos in the 1940′s, 1950′s, 1960′s, 1070′s, and 1980′s. Tragically, one third of all US mesothelioma victims served in the United States Navy, or are US Navy Veterans. The Mesothelioma Victims Center says, “The worst thing about a mesothelioma cancer diagnosis is typically it comes out of the blue. Frequently, an individual served in the US Navy, worked in a power plant, an oil refinery, or a shipyard decades ago, they get pneumonia type symptoms, it does not get better, and in some cases the doctors finally figure out its mesothelioma.” Individuals, or families dealing with a mesothelioma diagnosis, or living with mesothelioma are encouraged to contact the Mesothelioma Victims Center anytime at 866-714-6466 for their unparalleled free services. http://MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

Contact Information

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) April 07, 2012

Bel Marra Health, well known for offering high-quality, specially formulated vitamins and nutritional supplements, has commented on a 6 year study that has shown obesity is costing the healthcare system more than smoking.

The cost of smoking and obesity among more than 30,000 Mayo Clinic employees and retirees was measured between the years 2001 and 2007.

James P. Moriarty, MSc, of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester analyzed the results and found that both obesity and smoking were associated with excess costs for health care, but compared to non-smokers, average health costs were $1,275 higher for smokers.

The costs for the obese members of the group were $1,850 more than for those of average weight. However, and most shocking the numbers for those with morbid obesity blasted up to $5,500/year.

Moriarty says, “This [information] may lead to underestimation of the true incremental costs, since obesity is a risk factor for developing chronic conditions.”

CEO of Bel Marra Health Jim Chiang spoke to the issue, saying “smoking and obesity place a massive strain on the healthcare system. People need to find measure to keep themselves in check and lower costs, but for obvious health reasons, people also need to reduce health risk factors.”

The conclusive bottom line of the study provides new insights into long-term costs of obesity and smoking. The research shows that these two risk factors lead to persistently higher health costs throughout a seven-year follow-up period.

(SOURCE: “Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine”. class="releaseDateline">Roseville, California (PRWEB) September 01, 2011

In the high-tech twenty-first century, more and more people are turning toward natural home remedies and other organic forms of treatment. Zion Health, based in San Francisco, California, has been a major catalyst in this particular trend. Their line of clay-based natural skin care products, has arrived at Whole Foods Market located at 1001 Galleria Boulevard in Roseville, California.

The launch of Zion Health’s Magnetic Clay Skin Care products in Roseville follows several successful launches at Whole Foods Market stores throughout Northern California and a triumphant demonstration at CosmoProf North America 2011, an annual beauty industry convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Zion Health offers a vast family of products, including but not limited to mineral shampoos, conditioners, clay mineral deodorants, mineral soaps and even a clay toothpaste. These products are formulated with calcium montmorillonite, also known as Adama, a magnetic mineral clay commonly found near enriched mineral hot springs of Southern California and Mexico. This unique clay is commonly known for absorbing toxins including harmful bacteria and chemical toxins. The clay is also naturally enriched with essential trace minerals including calcium, iron, phosphorous, magnesium and silver.

“Clay has been used since the beginning of mankind to heal the body from many types of skin problems and health ailments. Calcium montmorillonite clay has natural antibacterial properties and does not result in any negative side effects when applied to the skin,” says Zion Health Sales Manager, Eddy Urbina.

Both North American Indian and African tribes have used clay for a variety of purposes including cleaning the teeth, healing wounds, and detoxifying the body. More recently, scientists affiliated with NASA, and the University of Texas have corroborated the healing and healthful properties of this unique combination of minerals. “In France, Montmorillonite clay is sold by bulk in most health food stores,” states Gloria Vilchez, Zion Health’s marketing manager. “The U.S. needs to catch up when it comes to the distribution of natural medicines.”

Based in San Francisco, California, Zion Health provides a wide array of products formulated with magnetic clay.
