class="releaseDateline">Portland, Maine (PRWEB) November 06, 2011

“Our patients should feel particularly confident as both Scott Steidl, M.D. and Jackie Nguyen, M.D. are fellowship trained Vitreoretinal specialists at Eyecare Medical Group. They can attend to even the most complex diabetic eye disease and problems,” commented Clement Berry, Chief Executive Officer of Eyecare Medical Group.

The vision loss from diabetic retinopathycan be prevented if it’s caught early and treated in time. A recent study found that more than one third of those diagnosed with diabetes do not adhere to vision care guidelines recommending a dilated eye exam every year.

As part of Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month we are urging people with diabetes to have a dilated eye exam every year. The longer a person has diabetes, the greater his or her risk for developing diabetic retinopathy. However, diabetic retinopathy does not only affect people who have had diabetes for many years, it can also appear within the first year or two after the onset of the disease.

Blood sugar levels can weaken blood vessels causing them to break down which causes swelling, hemorrhages and lipid deposits that can ultimately lead to vision loss. More ominous is the effect of the blood vessel breakdown and oxygen deprivation in promoting fragile new blood vessel growth that can easily break resulting in vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment and devastating vision impairment.

Patients can help to reduce the risk of developing diabetic eye disease by not smoking, controlling their cholesterol and lipid profile and blood pressure, as well as working to eat a heart-healthy diet rich in fish, fruit and green leafy vegetables and exercising.

Eyecare Medical Group is a Maine Ophthalmology practicestaffed by a team of eye care specialists including Board Certified Fellowship trained Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Opticians, technical and administrative staff who provide eye examinations for adults and children, cataract surgery and Intraocular lens implants, (IOL), laser vision correction such as LASIK, diagnosis and treatment of cornea disease including cornea transplants, care for diseases of the retina including diabetes and age related macular degeneration and diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.

To learn more about Eyecare Medical Group in Portland Maine you may visit eyecaremed.com. class="releaseDateline">Hilliard, Ohio (PRWEB) January 03, 2012

Wireless mobile buyback, data security and recycling company e-Cycle LLCpresented an $18,901 check to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Mid-Ohio Chapter as a result of the company’s “e-Cycle for Type 1 Diabetes” campaign held from Nov. 15 through the 23. e-Cycle donated $1 for every mobile phone the company purchased or recycled during the week.

Chris Irion, e-Cycle founder and father of a daughter diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, said the goal of the promotion was to raise awareness and support for two causes that are close to his heart—America Recycles Day (Nov. 15) and American Diabetes Month (November). Irion said he also wanted to show the potential that wireless buyback and recycling holds as a new revenue stream for charitable organizations.

“The entire e-Cycle team is extremely proud to present this donation to JDRF and we are excited that we were able to raise this much money in only seven days,” Irion said. “But our contribution only scratches the surface of the potential that mobile buyback and recycling offers as a viable new revenue stream for charitable organizations.”

Irion added, since 2005, e-Cycle has donated more than $1 million to various U.S. charities from proceeds raised through corporate mobile buyback, and that much more can be raised if enterprises can make mobile recycling a part of their corporate caring strategy. e-Cycle pays businesses and organizations between $1 and $280 dollars for each mobile device that can be reused, and recycles all other devices and accessories at no cost to make certain they do not end up in landfills. According to Irion, wireless mobile buyback offers a unique way for organizations to give back to the community without impacting their bottom line.

“This donation will fund life-saving research that will benefit everyone with type 1 diabetes, not only those in the Central Ohio area but across the country as well,” said JDRF Mid-Ohio Chapter Executive Director Cathy Paessun. “This one-week effort demonstrates the powerful impact corporations can have in terms of raising money and awareness of the need to fund research to cure, treat and prevent this insidious disease. The Irions know first hand that a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes is life-changing for the entire family. We appreciate their bringing not just their personal efforts to fund a cure but putting the resources of their company behind the cause as well.”

About e-Cycle LLC
Ranked the #68 Most Promising Company in America by Forbes and the #5 fastest growing environmental services company in the U.S. by Inc., e-Cycle helps organizations take a more responsible, secure and profitable approach to wireless recycling. e-Cycle buys used mobile phones that still retain value and recycles all others at no charge through an EPA-registered facility. The data on every reusable phone undergoes a rigorous, multi-step data deletion and auditing process to permanently remove confidential information. The company is in the final audit stages of its e-Stewards Certification and has a zero landfill policy. For more information, visit http://e-Cycle.com.

About JDRF
Aventura, FL (PRWEB) July 25, 2011

After seeing an emotional interview by Stephanie Harmon, an elementary school teacher in the dying town of Sparkman, AR, Dr. David Moskowitz, CEO of GenoMed pledged free medical care to the adults of the town. Ms. Harmon raised $42,000 in donations from her community to allow high school seniors to attend college. The town hopes that their children will return to Sparkman and keep the town alive.

Dr. Moskowitz has pledged free use of GenoMed’s “recipes” for diabetes, high blood pressure, emphysema, congestive heart failure, sickle cell disease, psoriasis, West Nile virus, and metastatic cancer for the residents of Sparkman. GenoMed finds the genes that cause disease, then uses the knowledge to improve patient outcomes. In particular, GenoMed can prevent 90% of dialysis if treatment starts early enough, before a patient has lost more than half of their kidney function. Dr. Moskowitz expects to make Sparkman the first dialysis-free town in the US.

Said Dr. Moskowitz, “We’re delighted to try to make Sparkman the healthiest town in America. class="releaseDateline">Boulder, Co (PRWEB) November 17, 2011

International Hot Tub Company, a Colorado Hot Spring Spas dealer, is showing their support for American Diabetes Month by offering free hot tub test soaks at all 4 stores located in Denver, Boulder, and Littleton.

Nearly 26 million children and adults have diabetes in the United States. An additional 79 million Americans are at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. The American Diabetes Association estimates that the total national cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States is $174 billion. Further published studies suggest that when additional costs for gestational diabetes, prediabetes and undiagnosed diabetes are included, the total diabetes-related costs in the U.S. could exceed $218 billion.

“A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine indicates that soaking in a hot tub can be beneficial for people affected by Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and sheds light on the advantages of spa ownership,” said Rich Hiner, president of International Hot Tub. “With this type of diabetes, people can often control their condition with regular exercise and a good diet. Unfortunately, some diabetics are physically unable to endure rigorous activity and maintain a steady weight.”

“People with this disease who spent half an hour daily in a hot tub for three weeks reduced their blood sugar levels up to 13%” continued Hiner. “As the hot tub’s heat dilates blood vessels, blood flow improves and the body makes better use of insulin, the hormone that converts blood sugar into energy.”

In addition to reduced blood sugar levels, hot tub bathing is ideal for individuals who are physically unable to exercise because soaking in a hot tub simulates exercise, increases blood circulation, reduces blood pressure, increases heart rate, and invigorates muscles. The release of endorphins, the body’s feel good chemical, and the induction of deeper sleep lead to a positive sense of wellbeing.

“We think American Diabetes Month is a great opportunity to help educate the public on how a hot tub can help improve their lives. That’s why we will provide free hot tub test soaks in all four of our locations throughout the month of November,” said Hiner. “We want consumers to check out the benefits of a relaxing soak in an energy efficient hot tub for themselves.”

“We do recommend that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute soak call us ahead of time to reserve their spot,” commented Jill Seng, marketing manager. “That way we can have everything ready for a relaxed, private hot tub experience.”

Consumers wanting to find the Hot Spring Spas location nearest them are encouraged to visit the company website for more information. class="releaseDateline">(PRWEB) October 14, 2011

True Healthy Products, a nutrition company who has been offering their version of the HCG Diet for almost three years has had time to experiment with the normal 500 calorie diet. The company found in many cases the 500 calorie diet could be increased and will still work.

It took their certified nutrition specialist slowly enhancing the diet beyond 500 Calories to see that dieters still see successful fat burning and weight loss.

The Fat Release System diet guide is free and can be found at their web site: http://www.fatreleasesystem.com

By having thousands of clients go through the Fat Release System HCG Diet, the company had ample time to modify and test the calorie count for certain individuals on the diet that were in the more active category.

Some clients who are physically active may have a hard time functioning on the 500 calorie a day eating plan even with the HCG in their system. In the absence of enough new protein cells coming in from foods, muscles may become depleted. For this reason, protecting the muscle tissue by increasing protein and vegetables in this particular diet is important with physically active people.

For several years the HCG Diet was a diet undertaken with the condition that people were to be less active. Most people that go through the HCG Fat Release System can easily follow it to its original protocol and do well at 500 calories a day.

The company urges clients who are interested in using the Fat Release System that are physically active to modify their diet. Sometimes there are reasons to modify the program based on individual dieter’s needs. The company welcomes the opportunity to speak to clients directly by phone or email to discuss the modified plan created by a certified nutritionist.

Here are some typical scenarios for diet modification:
You may be a Vegetarian or Vegan You are naturally tall, very large or muscle-bound You have a very physical job or are very active

Some general diet modifications are increasing your protein and veggies to 5 oz. weighed raw, as opposed to 3.5 oz and monitor your progress. Or include a breakfast of either an egg with an extra 3 egg whites and a veggie selection of 3.5 oz weighed raw.

The Company’s friendly support staff has been able to guide thousands of people with their weight loss goals during and after the Fat Release System HCG diet.

True Healthy Products is an all natural nutrition company offering a wide range of products from healthy dark chocolate that can be used while on the Fat Release HCG Diet Plan or The Simple Chocolate Diet, all natural sports nutrition products, organic skin care and whole food vitamin supplements.

To learn more about True Healthy Products and other nutritional products that are all natural and truly good for you, visit: http://www.truehealthyproducts.com

Toll Free: 888-400-2920
Palo Alto, California (PRWEB) September 14, 2011

On Monday, the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) joined leading consumer and health care provider groups in Washington, D.C., in a pledge of commitment to help consumers understand the potential benefits of health information technology (health IT), and to empower consumers by making it easier for them to get secure access to their health information and engage more fully in their health.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) hosted the first-ever Consumer Health IT Summit in Washington, D.C. on September 12, 2011. At the Summit, consumers, providers, and the public and private sectors came together to discuss how best to empower consumers to be partners in their health and care through health IT.

Paul Tang, M.D., vice president, chief innovation and technology officer for the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF), was among the health care leaders and advocates gathered in the nation’s capitol for the Consumer Health IT Summit. Dr. Tang also serves as vice chair of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Information Technology Policy Committee.

Dr. Paul Tang delivered this pledge at the Summit on behalf of PAMF:

“We pledge to support our patients, their families, and the communities we serve by providing them with secure, timely, electronic access to their health information, and to partner with them to use this information to improve their health and their care. PAMF implemented its integrated patient portal in 2000, through which our patients can access their health information, view lab test results, renew their prescriptions, and electronically communicate with their physicians. Patients can also download their information via a “blue button” capability. Our staff and physicians routinely promote use of our patient portal, My Health Online, and about 65% are active users. New functionality being used in clinical trials allows diabetic patients to wirelessly upload their glucose and patients with hypertension to upload their blood pressures, so that we can manage their health together on a day-to-day basis. We believe health information technology is an essential enabler to transform America’s health system to one where consumers are in control of their health. We are excited to join the Secretary in her consumer eHealth initiative to help make this vision a reality across America.”

“When it comes to health care, information is power,” said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. “When patients have their lab results, they are more likely to ask the right questions, make better decisions and receive better care. This Summit offers a unique opportunity for the public and private sectors alike to share strategies to improve consumer access to their health information, while safeguarding the privacy and security of their data.” On the day of the Summit, Secretary Sebelius proposed new rules that would expand the rights of patients to access their health information through the use of health information technology.

Yesterday’s event signals the start of a new initiative to empower individuals to be more engaged in their health through the use of health IT, and is an opportunity for those who share the goal of greater consumer engagement in health to come together in support of it. Thousands were able to watch online via a live webcast of the event at http://www.hhs.gov/live and followed the conversation on Twitter via #ONC hashtag.

About Health Information Technology at PAMF

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation(PAMF) is one of the earliest innovators of health information technology in the country. A year after it implemented the electronic health record (EHR) in 1999, PAMF worked with its EHR vendor (Epic Systems, Verona, WI) to co-develop the patient portal, PAMFOnline (now known as My Health Online). Currently, nearly two-thirds of PAMF’s adult primary care patients are using My Health Online.

About the Palo Alto Medical Foundation

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation(PAMF) for Health Care, Research and Education is a not-for-profit health care organization that is a pioneer in the multispecialty group practice of medicine. Founded in 1930, PAMF is part of the Peninsula Coastal Region of Sutter Health, one of the nation’s leading not-for-profit networks of community-based health care providers. PAMF’s 1,000 affiliated physicians and 4,900 employees serve nearly 730,000 patients at its medical centers and clinics in Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.
